Japan expands sanctions, freezes assets of 22 individuals
TOKYO, Jan 27 (PRIME) -- Japan has imposed new sanctions against Russia, freezing the assets of 22 individuals and three companies over the situation in Ukraine, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Friday.
The list of individuals includes Deputy Prime Ministers Alexander Belousov and Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Defense Minister Mikhail Mizintsev, Justice Minister Konstantin Chuichenko, children's ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova and philosopher Alexander Dugin. The list of companies includes truck producer KAMAZ, aircraft corporation Irkut and machine building plant Avangard.
Japan also imposed an export ban on general-purpose and military-related goods on 49 Russian companies. The list includes aviation institutes, aircraft construction and repair factories, weapons factories and other enterprises.
Tokyo also banned exports to Russia of vaccines, medical equipment and drugs, nuclear materials and devices, explosive detection equipment. The measures will come into force on February 3.
“The Japanese government has decided to impose a ban on exports to Russia of goods that could serve to strengthen military power in connection with the international situation around Ukraine, as a contribution to international efforts to resolve the problem and to establish peace,” the statement read.
